Final Animation
1. Design and Description:
For this project, because I don't know how to script, I used MASH entirely to create dominos falling effect. Initially I searched for the image I want to reveal. I watched many dominos shorts on the Internet that are in rainbow colors and they are so beautiful! Thus, I tried to make rainbow dominos for my project. The whole design is in Apple's logo shape because when I was thinking about the arrangement of dominos around the main figure (the girl), I unintentionally drew a long curve which looked like Apple's logo. So, I thought why not create an artistic logo for Apple!
The black background and the top view camera angle are the two tricks I used to make this short animation kind of cool, and I really like it, especially when the animation is complemented by the cool music!

I changed the dress by painting its edge into black to create a visible hemline in order to make the four edges of the rectangle (the image) less visible so that the entire logo will be prettier in the black background.

Image 1 is my initial design. In this design, I used over 7000 dominos in order to get rid of the pixel image feeling when using just hundreds of dominos, but after I wanted to change the rainbow's location at the top, Maya crashed and most of the dominos I created disappeared and I didn't know how to solve this problem. Interestingly, in this design my bottom curve looked like the bottom curve of Apple's logo which inspired me to remake the entire design in Apple's logo shape.
Image 2 is my second design. Image 3 is my third version which includes some clouds around the rainbow, but I was not satisfied with the clouds' shape so I redesigned it (image 4). I finally refined the clouds and the shape of the logo during the weekend: image 5 and 6 is the final design. I didn't intend to create an advertisement for Apple but I felt like adding some captions makes this animation more interesting. Image 7 reveals all the connectors I made in order to make the whole domino chain reaction happen. For the logo's rainbow color and the color of the rainbow, I manually selected dominos' faces except the top faces section by section and assigned lambert materials according to the rainbow color gradients. In total, I created over 8000 dominos, which took me a very long time to get the final video.
Some Final Thoughts:
Maya crashed many many times when I was doing this project. It had many different versions of crash and I didn't know what I should do to solve them. I remade my entire animation overnight but I still didn't get the effect I want. I will continue on refining it after the critique.
Update! I remade the entire project again during this weekend since my previous files are all damaged with unknown reasons. I feel better now with this final version!
