Project 2: Treasure Chest
Created by: Alisa Yang
Date due: Mar. 8, 2022
Final Animation
The final animation includes four 360-degree turntable animations showing smooth shading and wireframe of closed and open chest.
1. Reference Images:

These images are found on Amazon. I love the redwood texture which gives me a feeling of history and elegance. I made my chest model in exactly the same proportion listed in the reference image above.

When making the model of this treasure chest, I used Extrusion and Bevel a lot. I also used "Convert Texture to Geometry" to make the lock part, which I initially failed several times but finally figured it out. For its texture, I learned how to use "UV Editor" in Maya and PhotoShop to create a relatively more realistic texture map, but there are still many texture details I can improve due to time constrain and technical difficulties.

Treasure models are downloaded from the Internet: "Challenge #19: The King's Treasure".

4. Some Final Thoughts:
This project took me a very long time to complete because of so many technical difficulties. I learned many new features of Maya by applying features learned in class and searching for many useful tips online along the whole process, such as Bevel, Extrude, Convert Texture to Geometry, Curve Tools, UV mapping, PhotoShop, etc..
I also learned a little bit about Bump Mapping and I tried to apply it to my chest, but I did not figure out how to make it functional in the scene. I tried to render my animation but I did not figure out how to do that successfully at this time. I would love to learn these powerful features later.
